January: We reached 15,000 likes on our Facebook page. Facebook has become central to our organization’s public outreach efforts, allowing us to reach people who might never have seen our message otherwise. You can help us by continuing to like, comment, and share content from our Facebook page to increase visibility.
February: Thanks to everyone who made our February benefit auction a successful one! We raised over $400 and had a lot of fun in the process. That same month, we assisted Colorado NOCIRC in a legislative call to action with a sponsored post on our Facebook page. The post reached 16,848 people and caught the eye of a writer at The Colorado Westword, who went on to feature us in a news story about the fight to keep circumcision out of Colorado Medicaid funding.
March: Our board member Larissa was featured as Intact America’s Intactivist of the Month, making a total of three WHOLE Network board members who have now been highlighted by Intact America. (Thank you, Intact America, for this humbling recognition!) Later in March, Larissa partnered with Jennifer Andersen of Our Muddy Boots to present Proper Care of Your Intact Son in the Nourished Living Summit.
April: When Mayo Clinic Proceedings published a blatantly biased pro-circumcision study by Brian Morris, our comments rebuffing the study’s claims were published in an article by Medical News Today on April 2, 2014. Later in April, we held an informational booth at the American Atheists 2014 National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. The table drew a great deal of interest, and we hope to attend more of these conventions in the future! Though we fell short of our fundraising goal for this event, we were still able to purchase a set of circumcision instruments, a new banner, gear, and printed materials that we will be able to use at future events.
May: Dedicated volunteers manned a booth for TWN at the 25th annual Partners in Perinatal Health Conference Norwood, Massachusetts. Over 500 people attended this two-day event. Donations made by monthly supporters made registration and supplies for this event possible!
July: Changes were made to our online Intactivist Shop to make purchasing easier. Thank you for your patience! Larissa is now heading to the 13th annual International Symposium on Genital Autonomy and Children's Rights July 24th-26th in Boulder, Colorado. We've done our best to help spread the word about this extraordinary event on our Facebook page and can't wait to see it finally come to fruition!
What lies ahead? Here are our goals for the second half of 2014:
- Continue to expand and update our online list of Intact-Friendly Doctors.
- Get the word out via informational tables at baby fairs. If you know of an upcoming baby fair or pride event in your area, and are interested in volunteering to represent The WHOLE Network, please send us an email at [email protected]! Let’s work together to bring the circumcision rate down in your area.
- Blow through 20,000 likes on our Facebook page.
- Watch for our upcoming article in the fall issue of Pathways for Family Wellness Magazine!
