“The idea came about that we could harness the power of concerned parents to voice their thoughts about genital cutting,” Losquadro explains. “Parents are in effect hiring pediatricians and that is a powerful customer base that doctors and their affiliated medical associations should pay attention too. The AAP should also be concerned about the damage to their reputation that the 2012 policy is having on their organization. The AAP has lost members from that and other reasons, so they have to decide if being dogmatic on circumcision is really the best thing for their business model.”
The easy-to-use website, which is endorsed by The WHOLE Network, Intact America, and Your Whole Baby, provides the “opportunity for you to thank your pediatrician for taking good care of your child and – at the same time – mention your concerns about his or her membership in an organization that supports infant circumcision.”
“If parents aren't expressing their concerns to their children's doctors, then the doctors most likely think the status quo is working,” writes Jen Williams, founder of Your Whole Baby. “Tell the Doc is a positive campaign where we're asking parents to be brave, allow their child's doctor to put a face with a cause, and help to make change. Silence is what allows this atrocity to continue. It's time for the discussion to begin between patients and providers.”
Participation is easy. All you have to do is visit Tellthedoc.org and fill in the fields. A letter will then be sent to your doctor on your behalf for free.
