I stopped performing infant circumcisions about 20 years ago when I realized that there is no medical indication for the procedure. I try to give parents accurate information about the function of the foreskin and encourage them to let their sons decide for themselves when they are adults instead of taking that choice away from them as babies. Some of my medical partners do and some do not perform circumcisions. None of us in my group actively promotes circumcision and we give appropriate advice about the care of the intact penis. I am concerned that the American Academy of Pediatrics has failed to make a strong statement against routine infant circumcision despite overwhelming evidence that it is not only not medically indicated but is also harmful."

Not only is she our family pediatrician, but she was my (intact) husbands as well. The only time she mentioned circumcision to us was when she asked if we had looked into the topic. She looked more than relieved when I told her we had, and we decided against it. She does check his diaper area at each visit, but has not touched his penis at all. I was honestly surprised that she didn't try to give "facts", considering she's a bit of an older doctor (I'd say she's in her early to mid 50s). Not only has been supportive of our choice to not circ, but she supports that we delay/selective vax our kids.

"It took a lot of hunting for me to find an intact friendly doctor in my little area. Dr. Levine is awesome. He knows the proper care, and has very open conversations with parents. In addition to being intact friendly, he also does not perform circumcisions. This was big for me because I didn't want to take my boys (I have twin sons) to the doctor and hear a screaming baby having a circumcision. I wouldn't be able to keep my cool with that boy's parents. In addition to being intact friendly, he supports a modified vaccination schedule; something I also found very difficult to find. He's open 6 days a week and if I call his office and want to speak directly to him, it never takes more than 2 hours for him to return my call. He makes me feel like my children and I are his top priority (he also sees my daughter)."
